Gemeinsam zu Tisch: Shui-Lu Cai

In dieser Lecture Performance bereitet die chinesische Künstlerin AKI LEE eine traditionelle Speise der Hakka-Volksgruppe zu: Shui-Lu Cai (Speise des Wasserwegs). Hakka bedeutet „Gäste“. Die Speise und das Wort Shui-Lu stehen symbolisch für die Wanderung der Hakka vom chinesischen Bergland entlang der Gewässer in den Süden. Aki Lee lädt zur Verkostung dieses eingelegten Gemüses ein und verknüpft das gemeinsame Essen mit gesammelten Migrationsgeschichten aus dem chinesischen Pearl-River-Delta und der Linzer Donauregion. Wie können wir mithilfe von Essen ein Verständnis von unseren Mitmenschen entwickeln, die weit weg von uns leben? Teilnehmende sind eingeladen, ihre eigenen Geschichten und Erfahrungen auf Deutsch, Englisch oder Chinesisch zu erzählen und zu teilen. Shui-Lu Cai wird in einer veganen Version und in einer Version mit Bacon serviert.

At this food-sharing table, the Chinese artist AKI LEE will prepare a traditional dish of the Hakka ethnic group: Shui-Lu Cai 水路菜 (literary translated as a dish of the waterway). Hakka means “guest” in Chinese. The recipe of the dish has evolved and re-intervened through the historical migration process of the Hakka families. From the mountains to the region of the Pearl River Delta, languages, diets, and life trajectories are transformed and reformulated through personal trifles of everydayness. As part of the exhibition program “Take Away”, Aki Lee invites you to taste and share your Sauer-knautsch (sorrows and setbacks) stories while re-settling to a new community.

—workshop rundown—

The workshop will start with a short intro to the recipe and its preparation, and then Aki and Xiyu will cook separately at two small tables(ca.20-30min). The audiences will be offered a vegan version and one with Speck.

A table setting with printed texts and photos will be shown in an analog way on the dining table. While tasting, stories will unfold and be exchanged informally. (ca.30-40min)
