To the Surface ist eine Gruppenausstellung, die Studierende der Abteilung Malerei & Grafik der Kunstuniversität Linz zusammenbringt. Die Ausstellung hinterfragt Malerei als individuelle, singuläre oder sogar solitäre Praxis und nähert sich ihr stattdessen durch ortsspezifische Installationen und alternative Bildträger. Dabei wird Malerei als räumliche, materielle und kollaborative Praxis untersucht.
Ausgehend von Salz als metaphorischem Bezugsrahmen bewegt sich die Ausstellung durch dessen Eigenschaften – bewahrend und korrodierend, absorbierend und austrocknend, kristallisierend und verdunstend – um kollektive Dynamiken sowie Prozesse des Aushandelns und Austauschs zu reflektieren.

To the surface is a group exhibition bringing together students of the painting department of the Kunstuni Linz. Questioning painting as an individual and singular or even solitary practice, the exhibition approaches painting through sitespecific installation and alternative image carriers, examining it as a spatial, material, and collaborative practice. Using salt as a metaphorical framework, the exhibition moves through its qualities: preserving and corroding, absorbing and drying, crystallizing and evaporating to reflect on collective dynamics and acts of negotiation and exchange.
