Es war großartig, in Linz zu sein. Bevor ich ankam, hatten mir einige Freunde, die vor mir in Linz waren, gesagt, dass sie nicht sehr beeindruckt waren. Das kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Ich war sehr beeindruckt.

Ich denke, dass hat nicht nur mit viel Zeit und Raum zum Arbeiten zu tun, was eben wichtig ist. Die Wohnung, Atelier und Stipendium waren eine große Hilfe von der Stadt. Sondern die Lage, direkt vor der Donau und die Altbauten der Stadt, das Timing der Jahreszeit (Sommer), machten meinen Aufenthalt in Linz noch spezieller.

Während des ersten Monats verbrachte ich die Hälfte meiner Zeit damit, Fotos für ein Fotobuch aus einer fotografischen Expedition in China zu bearbeiten. Die andere Hälfte verbrachte ich damit, mich für andere Residenzen und Auszeichnungen zu bewerben. Die gute Nachricht ist, ich bekam eine Auszeichnung von FUNARTE, die brasilianische „National Foundation for the Arts“, für eine Bewerbung die ich während meines Aufenthalts in Salzamt geschrieben habe! So wird die Arbeit in Brasilien fortgesetzt, wo ich jetzt bin.

Den zweiten Monat verbrachte ich damit, die ausgewählten Fotografien zu reinigen, insgesamt 147 Bilder, mehr als genug, um eine Monographie zu veröffentlichen. Nun arbeite ich am Text der Arbeit und dem Design für den Buchprototyp.

Ich habe mir auch einige Zeit genommen, Österreich kennen zu lernen. Ich besuchte Wien (dort sind die besten Museen der Welt). Und ich ging nach Salzburg, Innsbruck (es war mein Kindheitstraum, die Alpen zu sehen) und München (Ich weiß, es ist nicht Österreich, aber wirklich schön für einen kurzen Trip von Linz).

Und ich verbrachte einige Zeit auf Reisen rund um Linz. Österreich ist im Allgemeinen eine Meisterklasse in barocker Kunst und Architektur. Aber ich denke, das Beste in Linz sind: die Kirchen und St. Florian, mit dem Fahrrad die blaue Donau entlang zu fahren … das Brot, die Freunde, die ich kennen lernen konnte, die Bäume voller Früchte, die Elvis Imitationen, das Bruckner Orchester, das Maracuja-Eis aus der Eis-Diele …

Es war schwierig für mich, Linz zu verlassen. Ich hoffe, bald wieder nach Österreich zu gehen, um weiter an meinem Projekt zu arbeiten und mehr vom Land zu sehen.

It was great to be in Linz. Before I arrived, some friends who have been there before told me that they were not very impressed. But I couldn’t disagree more. I was very impressed.

I think that has to do not just with having the time and space to work in what is important. The apartment, studio and stipendium were a great help from the city. But the location, in front of the river and in the old part of town, and the timing of my residency during summer, made my stay in Linz even more special.

During the first month I spent half of my time editing photographs from a photographic expedition I did in China, for a book. The other half I spent applying for other residencies and awards. The good news is that I was given an award from FUNARTE, the Brazilian National Foundation for the Arts, from an application written during my stay at Salzamt! So the work will continue in Brazil, where I am now.

The second month I spent cleaning the selected photographs, in a total of 147 images, more than enough to publish a monograph. Now I am going to work on the text and design a prototype for the book.

I also spent some time getting to know Austria. I went to Vienna (it has the best museums of the world, they have everything that’s good). And I went to Salzburg, Innsbruck (it was my childhood dream to see the Alps, and they did the right thing by letting Zaha Hadid leave her mark in the city) and Munich (I know, not Austria, but really nice for a short trip from Linz).

And I spent some time traveling around Linz. Austria in general is a masterclass in baroque art and architecture, but that is what I think is the best of Linz: the churches and St. Florian, together of course, with cycling around the Blue Danube…the bread, the friends I made, the trees full of fruit, the Elvis inpersonator, the Bruckner orchestra, the passion fruit ice cream from the Eis Dieler…

It was difficult to leave. I hope to go back soon to Austria, to work on my project and to see more of the country.
